Types of documents that you will need to support
a Visa application
FAMILY BASED VISAS
Certified copies of:
- all family members' passports, including copies of prior visas to travel to Australia, and copies of date stamps showing arrival and departure from Australia
- all family members' birth certificates. Childrens birth certificates must be full certificates showing both parents names. Extracts will not be accepted
- marriage certificate
- divorce papers for any previous marriage
- custody papers, Court orders or formal written consent provided by a non custodial parent, allowing any stepchildren to travel and reside in Australia
If you have Australian-based relatives, certified copies of :
- if they are Australian citizens, their citizenship certificate and if applicable Australian passport
- their birth certificate
- their marriage certificate
- proof of their residential address in Australia, such as a drivers licence, Council rate notice, utility account or bank statement showing their address
Proof of your domestic relationship, documents such as:
- a detailed Statement, setting out the history of your relationship such as the date when you first met, how your relationship developed, the date of any engagement, if in a de facto relationship the date that you formally commenced to live together, then setting out the development of the relationship over time including the creation of joint financial commitments such as bank accounts and the purchase of goods and property;
- copies of joint bank accounts
- copies of invoices, receipts, utility accounts issued in joint names
- if you own property in joint names, a copy of your land Title
- insurance policies noting each other as beneficiaries
- Wills making provision for each other
EMPLOYER SPONSORED/SKILLED VISAS:
Certified copies of the following documents:
- secondary and tertiary qualifications such as diplomas or degrees
- trade skill certificates or other proof of formal trade qualifications or completion of apprenticeship
- a detailed C.V. showing your educational and employment history, including full names of employers, dates of employment and including a description of the actual work undertaken
- written references from prior employers
If being sponsored by an Australian employer, certified copies of:
- the employer's certificate of incorporation or registration of business name
- the business' ABN number
- a copy of your proposed employment contract or letter of job offer, with detailed job description attached
- if the employer has advertised your position, copies of the advertisements
- copies of the employer's profit and loss statement and balance sheet for the past 2 financial years
- copies of any advertising or promotional material in regard to the employer's business
The above documents are not an exhaustive list of those that will be required by the Department of Immigration. However, if you are in a position to obtain the documents, it will greatly assist the prompt preparation of your visa application.
