What We Do

Our legal team of five solicitors and eleven support staff provide an extensive range of legal services. Our partners work in and oversee the following areas of practice:

DAVID FARAM:

David has been practising as a solicitor since 1978. In recent years he has been a member of the Executive Council of the Law Institute of Victoria and was President of the Institute in 2002.

David can assist you with advice and representation in the following areas:

  • Family Law matters including contact, child support and property settlement in the Magistrates, Federal Magistrates and Family Courts.
  • Court representation in the Magistrates and County Court in relation the traffic and criminal law matters.
  • Advice and representation in regard to civil litigation matters such as motor vehicle accidents and contractual disputes.
  • As a Mediator in relation to Family Law and contractual disputes.

IAN RITCHIE:

Ian was admitted to practice in 1979 and has been working in Shepparton since 1983. Historically Ian's practice had strong ties to the local union movement, providing a wide range of services to union members from the Health Services Union, National Union of Workers and Australian Nurses Federation. That work centred on areas such as:

  • Personal injury law particularly WorkCover matters.
  • Employment law including the drafting of employment contracts and advice and representation in regard to wrongful dismissal matters.
  • General litigation in the Magistrates, County and Supreme Courts involving traffic, debt and contractual disputes.

In 1996 Ian became a registered Migration Agent and commenced practice in the field of migration law. We now provide an extensive migration service throughout regional Victoria and southern New South Wales. We are one of a very small number of legal based migration practices outside the major metropolitan centres. Major areas of migration law handled include:

  • Spouse applications
  • Fiance applications
  • Last remaining relative, child and parent applications
  • Long stay business applications focussing on skilled employment such as veterinary surgeons, engineers and qualified tradespersons including fitters and turners, mechanics and orchardists.
  • Employer nomination and Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme visas.
  • Retirement visas

TIMOTHY DAVIES:

Tim commenced practice in 1980 and focuses on commercial, business and taxation law. He is highly qualified holding a Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Laws, and he has a Masters degree in Taxation. A Certified Practising Accountant, Tim also oversees the firm's accounting division, FRD Accounting Services Pty Ltd.

Tim is available to give advice in regard to:

  • Commercial and Property law including the GST and capital gains tax implications.
  • Taxation
  • Superannuation
  • Companies, Trusts and other business structures.
  • Estate Planning.
  • Intellectual Property.

By holding both legal and accounting qualifications Tim is able to give advice on the potential taxation implications of a client's commercial and property transactions.

THE FIRM

The firm also has a firm commitment to the support of our local community by acting in the role of honorary solicitors to various sporting and community groups. Both David and Ian hold positions on local school council boards of management and in the past have held executive positions on a number of community groups such as the Shepparton Golf Club and the Goulburn Region Residential Association. Tim has for a number of years acted as honorary Treasurer for the Shepparton Arts Festival Committee and the Shepparton Multicultural Aged Care Hostel. He has also been a board member of the Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE and a lectured in business finance and contract law at the Shepparton Campus of the La Trobe University.
